Hand Painted Quilt Raffle - 2010

Various members of HOMDA painted separate quilt blocks which were then sewn together with beautiful batik fabrics and machine quilted into a gorgeous full-size quilt.
Congratulations to June Stevens, the daughter-in-law of Ann Stevens, for winning the quilt!.
In October we will be entertaining Maxine Thomas as our guest teacher.
When? Friday, October 22 & Saturday, October 23, 2010.
The designs are from her new book Country Primitives 15, that is now available from Artists Club. .
Maxine's classes are now open to Non-Members. The cost is $60 per day for non-members and $50 per day for members. You will be asked to place a non refundable deposit of $10.00 per day in order to sign up for classes (unless you are paying for the classes in full).
To those who have only paid a deposit, you are asked to send your complete payment by September 15. Make out a check to HOMDA for the full amount minus your deposit. Send the check to Shirley Watson, 10651 Bishop Road, Dimondale, MI 48821.
Once we have 28 students, anyone else wanting to take the class will have to pay a premium of $25 in addition to the class fee. There is still space available.
We will be painting the designs on a wooden box with an interchangeable lid. (One box, two lids) It is the same box that is shown in Maxine's newest book. Anyone wanting this wood piece at this point will be responsible for ordering their own wood from the supplier, Smooth Cut Wood, 503-678-1318 (they don't have a website) Or you can paint the designs on wood of your choice.
Whatever wood pieces you choose, they will need to be basecoated with 2 coats of Khaki tan and have the designs drawn on them and basecoated BEFORE the classes. There will be a lot of painting to be done in Maxine's class and it will be impossible to basecoat the piece, put on the line drawing and basecoat the line drawing and expect to get anywhere near completing the piece in one day. Therefore, prework will be required. The rest of the supply list will be available as soon as it is known.
On Friday, October 22, we will be painting a primitive doll/bear design:

On Saturday, October 23, we will be painting Olde Santas:

The picture above shows the box we will be painting on.

The above image is a better view of the Olde Santas.
Basecoat night for everyone painting at the Maxine Thomas seminars. If you are painting the box then the top of your project will need to be basecoated with 2 coats of Khaki Tan. Then the line drawing needs to be put on – we will have them by then and maybe sooner (if sooner Shirley will mail them to you) and then everything needs to be basecoated – so many of us have two days projects to basecoat.
The paint should arrive to us from DecoArt by then, so it is a good time to share painting together and get a lot done.
We will have a pizza party – Little Caesar’s is right around the corner. Bring your own beverage and of course your brushes. Please bring a hair dryer if you can to speed the drying.
IMPORTANT – you must RSVP to Shirley Watson by Sept 20 if you will be there. Email or phone (517-646-9339). If the number of people planning to come are not huge we will change the location to the Hilbert painting hut. SO Shirley must have an RSVP by SEPT 20. Yes that is a week ahead of time but everyone would need to be notified if the location changes.
